When we did our original Weebly Review, it was one of the only services of its kind, a free, widget-based web design utility. Since then, a few other Weebly-inspired services have emerged, and Weebly itself has matured adding features to the extent that it can be compared to more comprehensive website creator packages such as Intuit Website Creator. The purpose of this Weebly review is to determine whether Weebly still stands out. What did the website creator free staff decide?

This is the part where we at website creator free usually talk about the price of the product in question, and this sometimes causes us great pain. This time around, though, we’re happy to confirm during our Weebly review it was free… well, mostly. Weebly does provide free hosting with only one minor limitation, which is that for storage, individual files can’t be over 5 MB, but you can have as many of those 5 MB files as you want. A Weebly subdomain is also included, and you have the option of purchasing a domain name through Weebly, or using one you already own.

For $3 per month, you can upgrade to Weebly Pro, you get some additional features, including a YouTube-style auto-converting video player, an audio player, a 500 MB file size limit, 10 sites per account (as opposed to the 2 you can have with regular Weebly), premium support, and more. For the purposes of our Weebly review, website creator free will be focusing primarily on the free version.

Weebly Review | Templates

During our Weebly review, they featured over 70 templates, with more being added on a regular basis. The quality of Weebly’s templates is very good overall. Most of them appear to cater to bloggers, though there are a few obvious exceptions. If you’re looking to make a website with a blog section, Weebly is an excellent choice thanks in large part to the nice blog-centric templates. The website creator free staff thought that they looked a fair sight better than the tired WordPress fare.

The real reason why this Weebly review has given its high marks for templates is because of how easy it is to use them in conjunction with the real centerpiece of the Weebly service, which is its widget-based, drag-and-drop customization. Try starting with a blank template and just dropping on widgets to your heart’s content, and you’ll find how easy it is to create a unique, yet highly functional website with Weebly.

Weebly Review | Features

Our Weebly review found some outstanding features, particularly for a free service. Its integration with Google AdWords is one of the more interesting things to offer, while its blogging functionality exceeds most of the other popular free blogging services. To get the powerful features listed at the start of our Weebly review, you’ll need to bite the bullet and upgrade to the Pro service, but the value is still very good. Also, a lot of the standard Weebly widgets provide some pretty useful functions. One member of the website creator free staff did mention that he wished Weebly were compatible with plug-ins from other platforms.

Easy to use

Our Weebly review found it to be a very straightforward program. Basically, all you need to do is pick out widgets, drag and drop them wherever you want, and you’re ready to go; it really is as simple as that. More advanced forms of customization, though, aren’t so easy. It is possible to go in and directly change the HTML or CSS if you’re so inclined, but this feature still isn’t very well implemented. It’s a bit like trying to mess with the CSS in something like WordPress – not impossible if you’re a pro, but more of a headache than it needs to be.

Help/support

Help and support is one area where Weebly really stumbles. Perhaps understandably, Weebly doesn’t offer phone support or anything like that, and sometimes support emails can take a little time to be addressed. The real problem is that the online help is just not good enough, with directions that can best be described as “taciturn.”  That said, we really didn’t need support during our weebly review.

Weebly Review | Overall

Well, to wrap up our Weebly review I’ll end it like this.  Weebly offers a simply brilliant website creator that can have you building an excellent looking website fast.  Best part, its free and someone with no web development experience can create a killer looking site.
