SiteSpinner is the flagship website builder software package from Virtual Mechanics. With a lot of quality products in the sector, SiteSpinner and its premium version SiteSpinner Pro will have to do a lot in order to stand out. Does SiteSpinner manage to accomplish this? We at website creator free have investigated, and we offer our findings to you in this SiteSpinner review.

SiteSpinner retails as a digital download for $49.00, with a disc version available for an additional $9.90. SiteSpinner Pro, which, as one would expect, has some expanded functionality, sells for $99.00 $69.95 digitally, with the disc “upgrade” available at the same added cost. A 15-day trial version is also available.

Both versions are compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and XP. Both require at least 24 MB of RAM and 10 MB of disk space, making SiteSpinner one of the leanest web design apps out there. Both also include a year of hosting from Jumpline.

Templates

Simply put, neither SiteSpinner nor SiteSpinner Pro offer anything too exciting in the way of templates. They offer only a limited number, and those that are there are mostly pretty plain and generic.

Features

On the plus side, templates aren’t really the point of SiteSpinner. SiteSpinner’s unique approach encourages users to play with its customization features instead, which for the most part are simple yet powerful. The basic concept is that you start with one of those minimalistic templates and then build up from there. With SiteSpinner, creating things like forms is much easier than it is in most other web design suites. SiteSpinner’s graphics editing features are likewise deceptively useful given their apparent simplicity.

SiteSpinner gives users a much more hands-on feel, and the feeling of accomplishment that the website creator free staffers had after putting together a Clifford the Big Red Dog fansite was well worth the price of admission. If you really want to push yourself and learn more about web design in the process, SiteSpinner is a great choice for this reason.

SiteSpinner Pro brings some additional features to the table, most notably a non-Flash animation tool, and support for mobile-ready website building, something a lot of the competition has overlooked.

Easy to use

For the most part, using SiteSpinner is an extremely smooth process. You’re able to create certain types of pages automatically, and others, like index pages, after filling out a simple form. The only knock that the website creator free staffers responsible for the SiteSpinner review had was that the interface tends to get cluttered when you’re doing a few different things at once, and having to push aside all those sub-windows can get annoying.

Help/support

SiteSpinner is best learned by doing, partly because it’s fun and designed well enough that this isn’t too much of a problem, but also because you don’t have much of a choice but to help yourself. The online help offered by Virtual Mechanics is totally inadequate, and even the forums are a little on the quiet side. Phone support, meanwhile, is nonexistent.

Overall

SiteSpinner and SiteSpinner Pro are recommended to anyone who has the time and energy to invest in learning its fantastic creative tools. It really does deliver.  On the other hand, if you’re looking for more of a template-heavy, set-it-and-forget-it type of experience, you may want to look at something like Xara Web Designer or WebPlus.

  1. Just come across the web-site by using a Ask search and thankful I did. This clears up a fair few queries me and my good friends have been discussing. Appreciate it

  2. Hello there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could get a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!
